Slice One: Orange

Orange Slice was introduced in 1984 along side with Lemon-Lime. It was reformulated a couple of time in the late 90's and circa 2000 and was discontinued in May 2005. Diet Orange Slice shared the same fate, but now Orange Slice has returned!

New Flavor! Slice One: Berries

A new flavor to the slice lineup, well sort-of this could be the long lost fruit punch slice that was discontinued in May 2005.

Slice One: Grape

Grape Slice was released in the late 80's and was discontinued in May of 2005. The world was sad to see the grape one leave... until now.... Welcome back Grape Slice!!

The History of Slice: Part III: The late 90's and beyond.

The late 1990's brought us some new flavors and change to the Slice world. In 1996 three new flavors were launched. Cherry-Lime Slice, Peach Slice, and Dr. Slice. Pepsi also launched a new look to the whole slice line-up. 1998 Orange Slice was made the new flagship of the brand. Pepsi introduced the new Slice "S" logo, which is Slice's current logo. Lemon-Lime Slice adopted the new "S" logo in 1999 shortly before it was canned, and the rest of the line up followed with the "S" logo in 2000. After S. Mist was launched, Lemon-Lime Slice was cancelled. By 2000 Grape, strawberry and many other flavors became regional. In 2001 Dr. Slice was replaced in most markets with Mr. Green. It was almost certain that Slice was slowly being replaced. Today we await, Tropicana Twister Soda... doomed to fail but in the process taking Slice down with them.

According to Pepsi reps, Tropicana should launch the first week of May along with the national roll-out of Pepsi Lime.

Dr. Slice "The Wild One" (1996-2005)

Dr. Slice was launched in 1996 as a cherry alternative to Dr. Pepper. This was Slice's second non-fruit extension following the 1992 launch of Slice Red. Dr. Slice was found nationally until the 2001 launch of Mr. Green. Dr. Slice was killed at that time in most markets. After the dismiss of Mr. Green, Dr. Slice began to pop up again in very limited markets until April 2005 when Pepsi completely killed Dr. Slice in bottled form. Cheerwine Soda has replaced Dr. Slice. Today you can only find Dr. Slice in very limited areas in fountain form only.

Peach Slice (1996-2005)

Peach Slice was launched in 1996 only in limited areas. Today you can find this flavor in the deep south until May 2005 when Slice will be killed off completely. It tastes much like the gummy peach rings... yum yum. No replacement at this time for Peach Slice.

Cherry-Lime Slice (1996-2005)

Not many even know this existed. Cherry-Lime slice was found in limited areas in the fountain only. It is sometimes called "Lime-aid". Last place reported seen was in Eaglesville, MO in 2004, and Des Moines Iowa in the fall of 2004.

Other Flavors:

Pink Lemon aid Slice (1996)

Very rare and limited, and the only non-carbonated Slice flavor. Never tried it, I assume it tasted like the Pink Lemon aid Fruit Works Pepsi put out in the late 90's. If anyone has tried this flavor, drop us a line.

The History of Slice Part II: The early 90's

In the Early 1990's Pepsi began to shift their focus in the Slice world by adding new fruit flavors to the Slice line-up. By 1988, Lemon-Lime Slice had already been reformulated and was discounted to .25 a can. Slice was failing in some people's minds. In 1992 Pepsi launched Crystal Pepsi. Many wondered if this would replace Lemon-Lime slice. By Jan. 1993 Crystal Pepsi failed, and Lemon-Lime Slice continued. Again in 1994, Pepsi tried launchiung a new Lemon-lime drink, "Crystal" by the makers of Pepsi. This version of Crystal was almost identical to Lemon-Lime Slice. Again Crystal did not payoff and it was cancelled just months after take-off.

Lemon-Lime Slice was saved and Pepsi decided to expand the Slice market. Why? All past Slice extensions were short lived (Apple/ Cherry Cola), why try again? Well, Pepsi did not have a high profile grape and strawberry flavor so they decided to try expanding slice again ...bring us the golden age of slice flavors.

Strawberry Slice (1992-2005)

Strawberry Slice was launched in 1992 and enjoyed national availability to about 1998. It had a smooth strawberry flavor the hard tangy flavor of other strawberry brands. Until April 2005, this flavor could be found in the south USA in 12 oz, 20 oz, and 2lt bottles. This flavor will be replaced by Tropicana Twister Soda: Strawberry nationally, and has been replaced with Strawberry Mirinda in select cities around the US.

Grape Slice (1992-2005)

Grape Slice was launched in 1992 and enjoyed national availability to about 1999. It has a smooth grape taste with very light carbonation. This flavor can be found until April 2005 in select cities across the US. (St. Louis, Northern Minnesota, The South, New England) This flavor is being replaced with Tropicana Twister Soda: Grape, and has been replaced in select cities with Mirinda: Grape.

Pineapple Slice (1992-2005)

Pineapple Slice was released in 1992 in select regions. Again a very smooth taste. One of my favorite flavors of the whole Slice line. Today, up until April 2005, you can find this flavor in the deep south in 12 oz cans. As of press time there is no replacement to this flavor.

Slice Red (1992-2005)

Slice Red was released in 1992 in select regions. This was Slice's answer to "Big Red" It was the first Slice extension not to be fruit flavored. This brand could be found up until Jan 2005, in scattered markets across the US. As of April 2005, it is not known where this brand can be found. As of press time there is no replacement for this flavor.

Fruit Punch Slice (1992-2005)

A very rare Slice brand launched in select regions in 1992. This brand is so rare that no one at "SaveSlice" has tried it! If you have let us know what you thought. Up to April 2005 this brand could be found in 2lt in parts of New Jersey and the deep south. As of press time there is no replacement for this flavor.

The History of Slice 1984-2005 Part I: The 80's

The end is near for the Slice brand as Tropicana and Mirinda make there way to replace Slice (boo). It was good while it lasted but really... what went wrong? Slice was first introduced as a soda with real fruit juices. in the mid 80's Lemon-Lime boasted up to 10% fruit juices. By the early 90's the juice was removed and more flavors were introduced, bringing us the modern slice era. It is a good time to take a look back at the much loved and misunderstood soda "Slice".

Lemon Lime Slice- Regular and Diet 1984-1999

This is the flagship flavor of the Slice brand. Released in 1984 to replace Teem in the United States. This was released when Pepsi failed to acquire 7up rights within the U.S. (Pepsi owns 7up outside the U.S.) Lemon-Lime Slice began to be discontinued in 1998 in some parts of the country when Pepsi began test marketing "Storm." In 1999 Pepsi dropped "Storm" and released Sierra Mist in most of the country. When Sierra Mist was released Lemon Lime Slice was discontinued. Thus, 1999 was the year slice began a slow death. The flagship flavor was ending.

Availability- Discontinued in cans since 1999

Fountain Drinks- Very limited (El Paso, IL ca. 2004)

Orange Slice- Regular and Diet 1984-2005

This is for many the last flavor of slice that was available, all the other Slice flavors went into regional availability around 1999. Orange Slice was released in 1984 to replace "Patio" For many this flavor was a childhood favorite. In 1998 Orange Slice was said to be the future of the Slice brand. At this point it was reformulated and given new updated graphics, making it the new flagship of the brand. Within two years orange failed to produce numbers pepsi would have liked. In 2003 Pepsi released Livewire. Many feared this would be the replacement of Slice, but in early 2005 Pepsi finally did what many feared for a long time... announced the real replacement to orange slice... Tropicana Orange Soda!

Cherry Cola Slice (1987)

If you have ever tasted this flavor drop us a line! This was a short lived Slice flavor as Pepsi canned it when they released Wild Cherry Pepsi in 1988.

Apple Slice- (1987-1988)

If you have ever tasted this flavor drop us a line! This was also a short lived flavor and only lasted a year. It is unknown why Pepsi quit making this flavor so fast. Today most US markets do not have a major Apple flavor. Currently Pepsi International makes Mirinda Apple.
